April Resolutions

I recently listened to the audio book of Gretchen Rubin’s “The Happiness Project”. It was very well done, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I also loved that she used the word “resolutions” to describe her new behaviors. It’s such a wonderful description of what we should be striving for in self-improvement. So, I stole it. I don’t know if undertaking an entire Happiness Project is in the cards for me right now, but I am going to start making some life changes and I wanted to document them for myself, and I’ve always wanted to start a blog. Honestly, I don’t think anyone my age really reads personal blogs anymore, so it seems like a pretty safe place to write. With that said, here are my April Resolutions:

  • Practice mindfulness in your everyday life
    • Meditate more often
    • Spend less time on phone
    • Schedule time away from school/work alone
  • Read for fun!
  • Take care of social connections
    • Talk to a close friend at least once a day (even just a quick text)
    • Spend time with a close friend at least once a week (even just a Facetime study date)
  • Take care of emotional health
    • Go to therapy as needed
    • COMMUNICATE. Be vulnerable to the people you love.
  • Practice healthy attachment to school/work
    • 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM schedule
    • Get shit done, don’t just enjoy the illusion of productivity
  • Get your financial shit together
    • Only library books/free PDFs
    • Cancel all subscriptions except:
      • Spotify
      • Headspace
      • Dropbox
    • Get a second job that you can stand

It seems like a lot, but most of these are things I’ve been slowly starting to practice in my everyday life that I’ve noticed have brought me joy or peace, and I want to implement them in a more formal way. My plan is to follow up next Sunday and to continue on that rough schedule to document for myself the progress I’m making. I’ll also possibly post about fun things I learn or other stuff I want to save for myself.
